Editing photos for Max Fish show +zine. Y2K. NYC 2000, two friends i met before moving to NYC. I seem to remember this was a Saturday afternoon and they were having margaritas to go from a restaurant on Ludlow street. This must have been on east Houston street. When I moved to NYC the italian lira was worth little compared to the US dollar. For the cost of a drink I would get a meal in Chinatown. After 9/11 I had no money, no place to live and my immigration status was in a limbo, and my Visa expired. I was couch surfing, eating 3 buns or lo mein in Chinatown for a dollar. I them started shooting for Jane magazine and took photos of Jane Pratt, the editor who lived in a townhouse in the west village. Jane Mayle, a fashion designer with a store on Elizabeth St lent me 100 dollars to process the film. Jane mag paid me 800 dollars to make some rush prints over the weekend. I then found a tiny studio on center market place and i'd share the futon with a lesbian friend who had the lease.
Things always got better.
These 2 old friends eventually stopped drinking.
