𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 by @carawallauthor
Wow! This is a story full of complicated relationships, feelings and conversations. I knew very little about it ahead of time, but was immediately pulled in to these two couples' lives. We get to follow each couple as they meet, fall in love and build a life together. We see that the husbands' ministry roles as pastors forever tie these two couples together in a complicated, frustrating and beautiful way.
This book so beautifully explores issues like faith, overcoming/healing from our childhood traumas, belief in God, pursuing friendships with those different from you, social justice and more. This is a book the explores religion - but not in a "here, this is what you should believe way" but rather in a nuanced, authentic way where we can explore what doubt looks like - either in God or each other.
The author says it so well when she says that having a job as a pastor isn't just a career, it's a lifestyle. Few careers provide such a messy terrain to navigate as those in ministry. In addition to explore large issues like faith and God, this story dives in to family issues including several types of loss.
I would describe this as a deeply meaningful novel with lots of heart. The realistic and authentic portrayal as each person as capable of hurting & loving others, believing & doubting and other dichotomies really gave meaning to this hauntingly beautiful story.
