“Tides” - 2016
Acrylic spray + colored pencils on wood panel, 8x10” (2)
I never repost my own work, but I rediscovered these in storage and it dawned on me that it might be cool to get new shots of old work during quarantine. So expect that... It makes me feel good, the older I get, to look back at stuff from years ago and feel proud of my work. These particular pieces were made after a series of failures using spray / masking techniques. I used to cringe in horror when I’d pull off masking tape from a canvas only to watch the 4 layers beneath it tear up unintentionally. When I look at my old art, it is easy for me to fixate on the design choices which I never would make today. Part of growth as an artist means being able to look at these “bad” decisions as learning moments. The little F-ups end up adding character to my art, and I think this applies to life in general. Hopefully the good outweighs the bad, and we are able to be better artists / people. Anyways, I’m beyond teetering into annoying philosophical territory... kbye!
