I think it's time to be honest with you... In August of 2018 I was blessed and fortunate enough to move to Florida. I was ready to live my best life, ready to meet new people, ready to ace it in grad school, and ready to create my own definition of the so called "American Dream". Now 1 year and 6 months later I realized that there is no such thing as the American Dream for people that don't have a degree, royal income, high credit score, and so on.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely had savings but you have to realize that your savings will run out if you don't find a way to create an income. See, as an international student I am not allowed to work off campus. As an international student you are only allowed to work up to 20 hours a week on campus for $8.50 an hour... Oh, I have to mention that those 20 hours a week are not even guaranteed. If you get lucky you get 5 to 12 hours a week. You do the math; you think that will pay all of my bills? Exactly, no.
Why are we so comfortable with having residual bills but no residual incomes? Why are we so comfortable with 1 source of income? Why are we so comfortable in life when we know we have to change things to progress and develop? Why are we so lazy? We only want to take. We never want to give because that is too much work. With this mindset you will never make it in life, period. Too many of you are way too comfortable with the situation you are in now. And lets be honest, it's not a pleasant situation because life is expensive and on top of that, most of us have to deal with school as well.
And here is the truth, I was really getting uncomfortable when it came to my finances since the last 6 months so I had to find ways to create an income. Like I mentioned before, I wasn't able to work off campus so what was I going to do? I took a leap of faith, learned a new skill set, and since then I've been making an income from anywhere in the world as long as I was connected to the Wi-Fi and I'm grateful since then.
Life is a marathon, not a sprint!
