Benefits to training with a barbell
If you’ve spent any amount of time in a gym, you’ve probably been overwhelmed by all the machines, dumbbells and barbells and probably wonder which you should start on... the answer to that question is that you should learn to use everything properly, but this post will address some of the benefits of a good old fashion barbell.
1️⃣ One of the first big reasons I support barbell training is being able to overload big movement patterns, like the bench press in the video. Your muscles respond to tension(weight) and the barbell is a great tool to when it comes to adding substantial load.
2️⃣ Being classified as “Free Weights,” barbells can be a great tool to build up your joint stability since there is no guided path or support like a machine. Maintaining the integrity and stability of your joints during these movements is key to remaining healthy and injury free.
3️⃣ It’s easy to track progress. One mechanism to ensure your training works is something called “Progressive Overload,” and in short that just means doing a little bit more work than you did the last time you trained. With a barbell it’s easy to track your set work and add a small amount of weight, like the 2.5 lb plates each time you are able to handle it.
No matter your purpose for training, it’s always good to be well rounded in your fitness profile. If you need help with your routine or need one in general, DM me to go over some options to get you started.
