We received an email from Chandler this morning updating us on his first week.
For those of you who aren't of our faith he has almost 3 weeks of training before he heads to Tacoma. So right now he's in Utah at a training center. On February 4th he will head to Tacoma.
Chandler says he is LOVING the MTC and it is way more spiritual than EFY (EFY is a week summer program for youth 14-18). There's a cat in his residence hall. He LOVES his district (other missionaries headed to Tacoma). He said Elder Hyer (a missionary that reported the same day) is hilarious. He gets along really well with Elder Simmons and says he's awesome (the missionary that he rode to the training center with - he's from TX). His calling is sacrament coordinator. His main responsibilities are to prepare the sacrament, bless the sacrament or make sure there is someone available to do that, and passing sacrament or making sure there are enough people to do so.
He said his first day was very long and exhausting. He said he was very sad and kept thinking "what did I just do?". But by the end of the day he was feeling much more at ease
He shared a scripture Alma 48:10 "And thus he was preparing to support their liberty, their lands, their wives, and their children, and their peace, and that they might live unto the Lord their God, and that they might maintain that which was called by their enemies the cause of Christians." Chandler said "I really love that scripture because it shows that they must be united as children of God. And this is my goal I want to achieve on my mission. My goal is to rely on God, and if I do that I'll have the ability to do His work"
It was good to hear from him. I could hear the enthusiasm in his words. Here are a few pics that he sent us. He's fascinated with the snow.
Can't wait for the next email or phone call!
