We celebrated ten years married this week.
We debated what we should do to celebrate.
Ideally, we would have loved to take a short vacation, just us two.
Ah, the dream!
We don’t have a village nearby to assist with the kids.
Even if we did, the primary caretakers to help us have quite a bit going on now, and they would not be able to help anyway.
So we went back and forth, what should we do to celebrate our anniversary?
Then, we had an idea.
What if instead of just one date night to celebrate ten years married,
We celebrate our anniversary for ten dates, one for each year married.
Each month we would have a different date, all the way through October.
We also decided that we would switch who plans the date each month.
One month he plans it, the next month I plan it.
He went up first and planned for January. I will take February, etc.
But, even the "best-planned" plan can run into a snafu.
And boy, did we have one!
My husband had picked something that would require a significant amount of walking.
The day before our first of ten dates,
A wine bottle fell on my big toe.
Yes, you read that right.
I was entering my home, and the bag broke, causing the bottle to fall right on my big toe!
The bottle shattered.
Suddenly, there was wine all over the floor and my big toe,
Well, let’s say this, IT HURT.
It swelled and turned black and blue.
I am slowly getting better, but needless to say, his plans went out the window.
And isn’t that what marriage is all about?
Marriage is your journey with someone.
Your life adventure with your partner.
And life is continually evolving.
Plans are always changing.
Life's journey is always developing, like your marriage.
So just roll with it, only not over anyone’s toe, please.
I will post more about our first of ten dates and my toe dilemma over on my Facebook page later today.
But, I need to elevate and ice my toe first. Did I mention it HURTS?
