Treating musculoskeletal conditions is so much more than rubbing, cupping, adjusting, taping, or needling the site of pain. It’s not only about how you Patient moves, it’s how they talk about the pain. It may give you a clue about the condition or potentially scary things that mimic MSK conditions. Past anxiety, depression, or how a patient interacts socially can turn up or turn down the pain. How you talk or treat the patient can turn up the volume as well. Our goal is to ultimately educate and help the patient work towards managing their condition without our intervention. At times we may need to check our egos and refer the patient to the appropriate professional if their condition worsens, is not getting better, or an underlying condition is suspected or their condition needs to be co-managed.
