How do you run in the cold?
I'll be honest. 🥶I am NOT a huge fan, but I also feel like the treadmill does not give me the same workout as the road. Sure, easier on the joints, but I definitely feel like I have worked harder after coming back from a long outdoor run. ❄First, it is so important to LAYER. In this photo, I have on a long-sleeve (one designed to keep you warm and to wick away sweat), a vest, and a down-feather jacket. Layering allows you to peel things off during your outdoor workout as your body heats up. ❄Allow for sweat to ventilate with proper clothing choices so that your body is not robbed of heat but also allows for proper evaporation of sweat. I personally look for clothing designed to keep you warm and also wick away sweat. Cotton is not ideal for cold weather; try wool instead. ❄Cover up your extremities. I have on thick socks and a headband under my hat. Your head loses a lot of heat, so it is essential to cover it. You'll notice I do not have gloves, but I 100% recommend wearing them to avoid hypothermia. My choice in not wearing them is personal; I heat up WAY too fast when I run, and my hands tend to warm up quickly. However, I typically have a pair in my jacket just in case.
#❄Make sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Sweat loss is not as obvious in the cold as it is in the heat, so make sure to replenish your body of fluids. ❄And extend your warm-up and cooldown time. It takes a bit more consideration when working out in extreme elements, so take care of your muscles. Since muscles are tighter in the cold, it's also important to properly stretch before and after.
Most of the clothing in this pics is from @athleta
Athleta is honestly my jam when it comes to workout clothing in general, but especially when it comes to clothing meant to be worn outside in different weather.
