If you’re someone who deeply values SELF EXPRESSION and well… hates other people’s rules, here are some sure-fire ways to get yourself into a funk: > Wake up, scroll social media from bed trying to ‘get inspired’ before you create content for the day… (Wait… how did those 45 minutes past so fast and why do I feel like shit?) > Create a checklist based on “what they tell me to do” tasks VS “where do I SEE the most progress/success/excitement/energy” tasks. > Try to figure out how someone else’s launch is going JUST so that you can try to recreate it (even if it feels boring to you). > Trying to see what GOLDEN TICKET those 8 coach-friends of yours are hiding because you JUST WANNT IT TO WORK ALLREADYYY. > Worrying that you’re not going to hit your goals without a mentor/significant other/friends who get it or anyone else being 10000% on board (so you wallow when people don’t understand you, don’t think you can ‘do it’, or question your credentials). I used to do this and I used to get realllll stuck real quick.
The rollercoaster of “I’m on fire” to “maybe they know more than me” is a quick emotional ride where you feel queasy the entire time and you’re left wondering why you wasted your ride pass on THAT.
Have you been there?
Here’s what I realized:
I cannot, simply CANNOT compromise my OWN self-expression and creativity in order to hit a goal.
I can’t, well I can (and I have) with total resentment and being a total biznatch to everyone around me because I was overworked and under-inspired, but I have a standard that just DOES NOT slip below “holy f balls this is fun” anymore.
So here’s what I did instead: > I created content FOR ME. I wrote my book based on inner musings and with the vibe of “the mic is in my hand and I am the star of a comedy show in my head - what do I believe in?” Instead of “WHAT DO I NEED TO SAY AND HOW CAN I PROVE MYSELF”. > I stopped trying to convince myself that I can’t do it alone. I stopped waiting for other people’s validation to just do what I wanted to do. Don’t get me wrong, having ‘your people’ who hype you up will get you FAR but your #1
job is YOUR dream - you’re responsible for being your own best hype man.
