The "Ok, Boomer" Anthem (5/54) (27/03/2020)
Lazy. Arrogant. Selfish. Self centered. Rebellious. Good-for-nothing. Useless.
If you're wondering what meaning these words carry here,
It is me simply stating what you,
the older generation, the ones who were born way before us,
The boomers, the gen X or gen Y,
These are the terms which you use frequently,
To address us - the ones born towards the end of the previous century,
and in the beginning of this one.
Choosing to do what we love,
Is, in your eyes, a crime of the highest form.
Having our own thoughts, beliefs and opinions,
Is, in your eyes, we being arrogant.
It is, according to you, us showing you how "less" we know,
How you know more than we do, and how you are, supposedly, always right.
We're still children.
And we're adults at the same time.
If we try to defend ourselves,
Or not let you or anyone falsely accuse us,
We are labelled as mindless, argumentative kids,
Who don't know what they're talking about.
We're too young to have our own opinions.
We know what your problem is.
We know that you're jealous of us.
We know that you envy us.
We know that you wish you were as strong and as opinionated as us,
when you were of our age.
You hate to see us fight back.
You hate to see us stand up,
Not just for ourselves, but for others too.
You hate to see us prove you wrong.
You hate to see us having just as much of knowledge as you do, maybe even more.
You hate to see us not bending to you,
Or to your beliefs, prejudices and stereotypes.
Well, here's a newsflash for you -
You can continue with what you've been doing.
You can try all you want, with all your might.
Give it your best shot. Do whatever you want to, to silence us.
Because you're not going to succeed.
You will never succeed.
If you silence one of us, a thousand will speak up.
If you silence a hundred of us, lakhs of us will speak up.
You see, we don't know how to give up.
We won't give up.
Not unless it penetrates your thick skulls;
That we're not going to bend down to you.
We're not going to bow down to you and let you command us. (contd.)
